The first trial of the outdoor title will have Toni Bow as the main favorite
This weekend, Galicia will regain its leading role in the Trial World Championship, with a celebration in the area of A Penouqueira (Arteixo) of the first event in the calendar, organized by the Arteixo Motorcycle Mountaineering Club, which mobilizes about two hundred associates. These are the keys to an international event.
CALENDAR
The first of seven tests
Arteixo starts the World Championship, which will then go through Gouveija (Portugal, from April 21 to 23), Motegi (Japan, from May 19 to 21), Baldasserron (San Marino, from June 9 to 11), Sant Julià de Lòri (Andorra, from June 16 to 18), Sestriere (Italy, from July 21 to 23) and Vertolaye (France, from September 1 to 3).
It is not the first time that it is celebrated in Galicia, but the community has been absent from the international calendar for years. The world outdoor trial event is part of the indoor trial season that has passed through Barcelona, Vienna, Pamplona and Bordeaux, and from October will visit Andorra, Madrid and La Vendée.
CATEGORIES and PILOTS
Toni Bou, and the Galicians Casales and Marcelli
The undisputed protagonist of this sport in all its modalities at the planetary level is Toni Bou (on Montesa, from the Repsol Honda team), the most successful athlete of all time, with thirty-two world championships (unbeaten) championship since 2007) and 48 other titles (Spanish championship, nation, European…). The list of 73 entries (for men’s GP, T2, T3 and women’s WG categories) also includes Gabriel Marcelli (from O Rosal and Bou’s teammate) and Jorge Casales (official Scorp driver) from Vigo.
Among the young talents, the Asturian Jorge García Torre (under the auspices of the Sherco Academy program) and in the women’s category Egarense Berta Abellán (three-time vice-champion of the world and also an official driver of Scorp).
TIME PROGRAM
Two areas, with Saturday and Sunday as strong days
On Friday, the drivers will arrive, and the machines will undergo technical and administrative checks at the Arteixo festival area. Official trainings will start at 12:00, and recognition of the fighting grounds at 2:00 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, the competition will take place from nine in the morning to half past four in the afternoon.
The two paddocks are located on Arsenio Iglesias Avenue, in the parking lot of the soccer field and the city swimming pool, and in the old arena for horses.
COMPETITION SYSTEM
Overcoming obstacles against the weather with a motorcycle without stopping a foot on the ground
The World Cup competition will be divided into two days of about five or six hours of competition, in which the pilots will circle twice in twelve designated zones. In each part of the route, they will have to progress between marked gates, avoiding natural obstacles (trunks, rocks, roots and, although not the case in Arteix, occasionally streams and watercourses). He will not be able to lean or support the motorcycle. Putting both feet on the ground is called a fiasco and entails disqualification in that area, with five penalty points. Each time the foot is on the ground, the penalty is one point. With five in the same zone, the pilot must leave it and move on to the next one. The participant who collects the fewest penalty points wins. In the event of a tie, the winner will be the one who spent the least amount of time completing the area or reported the most areas without penalty points.
APPROACHES AND ACTIVITIES
Free, but with limited capacity, tickets on sale and a few parking spaces
The indoor training area on Friday is in the Dome, and the capacity is limited to two thousand people. In addition, there is also a VIP area for which you need to have a ticket. Access to the paddock is free, but the capacity is limited to two thousand people. Fans will be able to park at the A Penouqueira training ground and around the Dome, in the designated areas.
The organization points out that “the idea is for it to be a close event for the non-specialist public as well, since the other tests take place in mountainous areas that are difficult to access. In Arteix, it is foreseen that you can walk between the areas.
Closing concerts every day
The organization has scheduled three concerts, one closing each day of the World Cup. Virtual Project will perform on Friday at nine o’clock in the evening. On Saturday, at five in the afternoon, Los Revenidos. On Sunday, also at five in the afternoon, it will be Iván and Juan’s turn.
