Great sadness in the volleyball world. Young volleyball player Julia Ituma dies at just 18 years old.
The Italian was in Istanbul with her team AGIL Volley Novara for the second leg in the semi-finals of the Champions League against Eczacibasi. In the Turkish capital, Ituma fell from her hotel room window and succumbed to her injuries. The reason for the accident is not yet clear, the drama would have taken place in the early hours of the morning.
According to a press release, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in close contact with the Turkish authorities and is doing everything possible to clarify the matter.
Born in Milan to Nigerian parents, Julia Ituma was one of Italy’s top volleyball talents with her height of 1.92 m. With Italy she won the European U19 Championship in 2022. (byl)
