At the European Championships in Antalya, the Swiss gymnasts were unable to build on their strong 4th place among the men. They finish the team competition in a disappointing 17th place with 143,795 points.
They therefore miss place 13 and therefore qualify for the World Cup in Antwerp next fall. In the final tally, the team with Lena Bickel, Caterine Cereghetti, Stefanie Siegenthaler, Anny Wu and Martina Eisenegger is more than 1.7 points short.
Great Britain win European title
The Swiss are not accessing their potential, especially on the uneven bars and balance beam, where numerous divestments are recorded. A few weeks ago, the team of head coach Wendy Bruce-Martin, with the same line-up, scored seven points more in the preparatory game against Austria in Magglingen.
Great Britain becomes European champion with 164,428 points ahead of defending champion Italy (161,629) and the Netherlands (158,896).
Cereghetti, Bickel and Anny Wu clearly missed the all-around final of the top 24 as 38th, 41st and 42nd respectively. Tenth on floor, Bickel comes closest to qualifying for the top eight apparatus finals. (SDA)
