It’s not mathematically certain yet, but the Nashville Predators with their captain Roman Josi will likely miss the NHL playoffs for the first time since 2014.
The team from the American state of Tennessee defeated the Calgary Flames 3-2 nP on Tuesday-evening. Josi, who has missed a 13th straight game through injury, is pleased to see teammates Cody Glass and Thomas Novak turn a penalty shootout deficit and keep the Predators’ playoff hopes alive.
But the chance of a successful end of the regular season remains small. In the battle for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference, which still earns the last ticket to the playoffs, the Winnipeg Jets clearly have the best cards with Nino Niederreiter. Winnipeg has 93 points, Calgary has 91 and Nashville has 90. While Calgary is in for a serious fight, Winnipeg and Nashville have two more chances to score.
The Nashville Predators can no longer do it themselves and are dependent on two losses by the Winnipeg Jets. The Canadians are currently in good shape. The Jets have won four of their last five games – including against Nashville. On Tuesday night, they don’t give the San Jose Sharks a chance. With the 6:2 win, with Niederreiter providing the assist for two goals, Winnipeg scored the two decisive points. (SDA)
