YB inspires nearly 300,000 followers on Tiktok.

Not only in the Super League table, but also in the national Tiktok comparison, no club can match YB at the moment. With almost 300 thousand followers, the Berners have almost twice as many fans as their first pursuer Servette. But this success of YB’s is no coincidence.

As one of the first Swiss sports clubs, the Chinese social medium was used in early 2020 and a concept was already developed during the corona pandemic. “YB primarily wants to get closer to the fans with Tiktok and wants to increase the reach on social media,” the club replies to Blick.

“With the corona pandemic, the new channel proved very grateful to stay in closer digital contact with the community.” You regularly test and analyze which formats and content work on the platform: “We are very careful that we only follow trends that suit the club and the football community.” But not only “the insights behind the scenes and the new proximity to the players”, but also the sporting success ensured the growing digital popularity.

Zurich residents sleep through the boom

However, the reigning Swiss champions FC Zurich slept through the Tiktok boom. Until January 1, 2023, the city club could not be found on the platform. However, since then, the FCZ has posted at least one video almost every day.

FCZ states to Blick that the development of various social media channels has always been observed and discussed. “In addition, the feedback from fan circles was quite skeptical at the beginning, so we also took our time.” No account was used even during the championship season, mainly for “resource related reasons”.

At some point, however, the time had come that “FC Zürich also wanted to reach a somewhat younger fan community via Tiktok”. To do this, he uses “platform-specific, sometimes funny content” to give fans a behind-the-scenes look at the super-league.

Winti non-existent – Bern also leads in hockey

Incidentally, Winterthur is the only one of the ten Super League clubs – not yet represented – on Tiktok. “Yes, we plan to do it, but we have not yet determined the date and content in detail,” replies FCW. A TikTok account has not been used so far because “as a promoter we were not yet at the level of the Super League clubs in terms of media”, including in terms of personnel.

And we continue with Bern for Zurich. This is also the case in the hockey Tiktok ranking. SC Bern is the only hockey club in Switzerland to break the ten thousand follower mark. Unlike other National League competitors, the Berners jumped on the Tiktok bandwagon back in 2019. “The idea was to jump on a new platform early, reach a new generation with SCB content and further expand the fan community,” the hockey club explains to Blick.

They start from their own ideas, but the Bernese would also adapt social trends to the SCB. “On the one hand, we use formats that are also played on SCB’s other channels, but we regularly produce content specifically for Tiktok,” SCB continues. For the coming season, every channel, including Tiktok, will be “discussed internally again on orientation, content and relevance”.

French strongly represented

Striking: with the superliga teams Servette, Sion, the volleyball club Lausanne UC and Challenge Ligist Lausanne-Sport, four clubs from French-speaking Switzerland are in the top 6. The latter has experienced a significant revival since the visit of football legend Ronaldinho.

The Lausanne UC volleyball club made it to the top 5 thanks to the explosion of a viral hit. A training video posted about a year ago has so far been viewed 17 million (!) times.

So clear conditions at club level. But it is even more evident in the ranking of Swiss athletes. That leads – who would have thought – a woman from Bern.

1

Alisha Lehmann – 6.6 million followers

Alisha Lehmann is the ultimate in the Swiss Tiktok game.

Alisha Lehmann (24) has just overtaken Roger Federer in the Swiss Instagram ranking, only Ivan Rakitic still has the footballer in front of her. On Tiktok, however, no one can light a candle to the resident of Bern – and by a huge margin.

Lehmann inspires her 6.6 million followers with insights into her personal life, vacation photos and viral challenges. The 24-year-old rarely sees football clips.
