Big cheers for Yannick Schwaller.

CC Geneva’s Pablo Lachat, Sven Michel, Yannick Schwaller and Benoît Schwarz seem to have recovered well the day after the hard-to-digest defeat against Canada in the semi-finals. They pressured the Italians, led by Geneva native Joël Retornaz, from the very end with a two-man house.

Because, unlike their opponents, they do not make any significant mistakes, the Swiss steal stone by stone. Thus, six stolen points arrive at the two-man house in the first half of the game – resulting in an 8-0 lead. In the end, a clear 11:3 comes out.

Historic World Cup Achievements

For the CC Geneva curlers, it is the second international championship in the new line-up with Yannick Schwaller and Pablo Lachat instead of Peter De Cruz and Valentin Tanner, who retired after the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing. They can be very satisfied with the first result: Before they won bronze at the World Cup, they won European silver in Östersund in November after a narrow defeat in the final against Scotland.

Geneva’s performance in Ottawa also has historical value in statistics. The eight wins in a row in the round robin and the overall balance of 12:2 wins have surpassed the legendary Attinger team from Dübendorf – remember, only in the 1970s. (SDA/mab)
