Happens often: the Americans appear dangerous in front of goalkeeper Saskia Maurer.

A game couldn’t start worse. Switzerland fell behind after just seven seconds in their second match in Group A at the World Cup in Brampton (Canada).

American Abbey Murphy takes the disc after the face-off, bends around defender Nicole Vallario and beats goalkeeper Saskia Maurer from a tight angle.

Schwedin scored after 10 seconds on Thursday

A gateway to the history books. Never before has a woman scored a goal faster at a World Cup (held since 1990). The previous record? Was only a day old. On Thursday, 16-year-old Hilda Svensson put Sweden ahead of Germany (2-6) after ten seconds.

Switzerland made it on the scoreboard against the US thanks to Rahel Enzler. The last time the Swiss succeeded was in 2008 in a direct duel at a World Cup or Olympic Games against the nine-time world champion. Enzler scored in the 51st minute on a Nicole Hensley rebound to make it 7–1. The match is lost 1:9.

Japan and the Czech Republic are now following suit

With defending champion Canada – in this game (0:4), head coach Colin Muller had to receive medical treatment because a deflected puck flew into his face – and the USA, the Swiss have the toughest opponents behind them. Japan will now follow (Monday) and the Czech Republic on Wednesday evening, third place at the 2022 World Cup.

Due to the set-up, the five countries in Group A have already qualified for the quarter-finals. (yup)
