Barcelona will commit even more to the renovation of Camp Nou

Investors’ mistrust due to the economic and institutional crisis forces him to accept high interest rates to obtain a loan of HRK 1,500 million.

After leverage that compromised their income for several seasons in exchange for strengthening a team whose salary cap exceeded 600 million, but did not measure up to European competitions, and the reputation on the field due to the Negreiro case, Joan Laporta completes another big mortgage for Barcelona. The president of the club has already agreed with Limak on the renovation of the Camp Nou and the creation of a macro space in the center of Barcelona called Espai Barça. It will cost 1,500 million, and the deal to obtain loans from Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan is very close to closing, although, given the distrust of investors, he will face large interests that create doubts for the vast majority of the Blaugrana board. .

A delicate negotiating position means that the current scenario being considered for the loan is very different from the initial one. After the first five years of the delay, Barcelona hoped to achieve an annual return of 80 million to pay a total of 2,400 million over 30 years. The average interest they were dealing with was 1.98%, but the need to stop business and the distrust surrounding the club will make it start with at least 6%, which the vice president for economy, Eduard Romeu, finds impossible to overcome.

The goal would be to pay back the first 500 million in five years with that interest and from there negotiate two more installments of 500 million. In Barcelona, they hope that adhering to the credit conditions during the first five years will allow them to have lower interest rates. Thus, they intend for the second tranche of 500 million to have a tax of 5 percent, and for the last ones to be even lower.

Laporta has already signed a loan deal with Goldman Sachs in the summer of 2021, which saved the club from a dramatic financial situation. On that occasion, he was given ten years to pay it back with an interest rate of 1.98 percent. Bartomeu agreed another 815 which will now almost double.

He has already informed the RFEF of his move to Montjuich due to the start of work in the summer

Barcelona has already informed the Royal Spanish Football Association, which in turn must inform UEFA, of its intention to move to the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium in Montjuic next season due to already agreed works with the Turkish Limak construction company. Despite pressure from the dressing room to avoid exile, according to the Ara newspaper, the plan is to make his alternative fiefdom debut during the Joan Gamper Trophy celebrations next August.

Of the 1,500 million euros Barcelona needs, some 900 will go to the Camp Nou, but the Espai Barça project covers urban redevelopment of up to 18 hectares, with a commitment to various business opportunities helping to finance the construction of a new 15,000-seat Palau Blaugrana to a second pavilion with an ice rink.
