“She Said I Looked Like a Pig”

The Swiss Gymnastics Federation is not resting. In the SRF program “Rundschau”, six former young hopefuls in trampolining make serious accusations against the head coach of the Northwest Swiss artistic gymnastics and trampoline center NKL.

“She never beat us, but sometimes I would have preferred her to mentally destroy me like that. She told me I look like a pig and I’m getting fatter and fatter every day,” says an ex-athlete. I thought I could fall on my head while jumping, so I didn’t have to train for a while.”

Another former athlete recalls, “She sat on our knees so they stretched out better. Many of us still have knee problems today.”

Trainer can still work

Through her lawyer, the accused trainer rejects the allegations. She has been temporarily suspended by the Swiss Sports Integrity Ethics Body for the duration of the ongoing investigation. The ban was lifted after an appeal to the Swiss sports disciplinary chamber. The trainer continues to work at the NKL, but is certainly no longer allowed to stay in the hall alone with athletes.

The allegations against the management of the Swiss Gymnastics Association STV are spicy. After Blick made public grievances in the field of rhythmic gymnastics in the summer of 2020 and the Magglingen minutes were published in the “Magazine” a little later, the association changed leadership in early 2021.

The new crew around director Béatrice Wertli promised to get better. According to SRF, however, she would not have reported the latest allegations to the responsible ethics office for months.
