Jonas Vingegaard, winner of last year’s Tour de France, has won the third stage of the Tour of the Basque Country. After a hilly 163 kilometers from Errenteria to Amasa-Villabona on the final incline, which is up to 26 percent steep, the Dane proves to be the strongest driver. He is two seconds ahead of Spaniards Mikel Landa and Enric Mas.
With his fourth win of the season, Vingegaard also takes the lead in the general classification. He has a five-second lead over second-placed Landa with three stages to go. Swiss starters Marc Hirschi and Mauro Schmid, second in the first stage, are 58 seconds and 1:28 minutes behind in 28th and 36th intermediate places respectively. (SDA/mab)
