Mar Simón, who won two golds at the National Throwing Championship, is the daughter of immigrants from Arbo and lives in Switzerland, but competes in major championships with Celta

Sea Simon Carreno lives in Berne and there is dual citizenship Swiss and Spanish, but competes with Celtic athletics and wins medals, in pairs, in Spain. Pitcher, of 16 years, is the daughter of emigration. His parents first went to the Canary Islands, and ten years ago they moved Switzerlandto. From there, bearing the travel expenses, her father, who works in construction, transfers her so that she can compete in the championships of Galicia and Spain and be part of Galician team. Also with a club record in Bern, he has not yet decided which country he will play for if he reaches international status.

His father, Manuel Anxo Simón Fernández, who played handball, is from Arbo y Mar and was born in Lanzarote. Ten years ago they immigrated to Switzerland without ever losing touch with their country. The athlete does not dare with the Galician, but he understands it perfectly.

Mar came to the world of throwing because of his brother. «O bráho só fai disco. I took him to the U18 European Championship, I watched him throw, I was amazed by everything and every move and I wanted to startsays his father, who then bought him a discus, a spear and a ball. Later, he turned on the hammer almost because of the stubbornness of his father, who saw many possibilities for him in that discipline. “I like the album better; At first I didn’t like the hammer, it was very hard for me – says the thrower who looks like a discus thrower with more strokes.

The trips from Switzerland to the Iberian Peninsula to compete began last season, when Mar Simón went to Gallego and won both the discus and the hammer, repeating later at the National, taking silver in the hammer and staying in the door in the discus. He was also part of the Galician team in the state of autonomous federations, where he won silver.

The good results saw him take part in last weekend’s Spanish Juvenile Long Throw Championships, where he came out with a back injury but still won two gold medals, in the hammer with a record of 49.75m and the discus with 43.80. . His strength and ability to overcome are his main guarantees. In addition, she is a born competitor. “My back hurt a lot, but when it came to throwing, I barely noticed it,” he says.

Looking ahead to the outdoor season, he will be in Gallego and in Spain with the intention of returning to the podium twice and hoping to repeat with Galicia in the federation competition. “I really like competing in both countries. In Spain they are more interested in throwing than in Switzerland, they have fewer championships here,” says Mar, who does not trust his rivals in Spain too much, but follows the news in his Vigo club and the rest of Spanish athletics.

His family pays for the trips

«We go to championships that are of little importance because you have to pay for them» says his father. During the last weekend, Celta took over the hotel costs, but the family paid for the trip (air tickets, train and car rental). The same thing happened with the Spanish federation when he called for the concentration of the throwing sector. «It’s a sacrifice, but as long as the girl is happy, enjoying herself and doing well, I’m glad I can help her», points out Manuel Anxo.

Located in Switzerland, all training takes place in Bern. He currently trains four days a week, dividing the two disciplines equally. «Have a martelo trainer or a disco star with me», points out the father who declares himself self-taught and who gained knowledge over time, especially with his son who lives in the Canary Islands. Now you have a champion on your hands.
