“I want to knock my opponent out,” Alexander Nedbei told Blick before his fight against Sladan Janjanin. And the 36-year-old followed his words with actions.
On Saturday afternoon, the Zurich native defeated his Bosnian opponent in the fifth round in Montenegro to take the WBC title from the Slavic and Baltic Countries Boxing Bureau (CISBB). Nedbei was named the best boxer of ten Slavic countries and Balkan states in bridge weight (body weight 90-100 kg).
The dream lives
So the German seizes this great opportunity and keeps his dream of being a boxing elite alive. Nedbei is now in the WBC top 25 rankings and is expected to face better opponents at bigger events in the future.
Exactly what that will look like remains to be seen. One thing is certain: former bouncer Alex Nedbei will still be making his mark in the boxing world. (byl)
