Denis Corthay surprisingly becomes Swiss champion in Super-G.

The pedestal

1. Dennis Corthay 1:06–21
2. Stefan Rogentin +0.02
3. Franjo von Allmen +0.22

The race

Denis Corthay finished second and fourth in the Super-G European Cup this winter, his best results of his career. And now the 19-year-old cousin of Justin Murisier (31) and William Besse (55, Lauberhorn winner 1994) trumps the Swiss championship. The man from Bagnes uses the home advantage as Walliser and is especially fast in the last part. Thanks to the strong finish, he cheated top favorite Stefan Rogentin (28) by a touché in Verbier and celebrated his first national title.

Corthay only has to shudder once for his victory: during Fabian Spring’s ride with number 17. The 20-year-old Schangnauer, who rides around in an old Beat Feuz outfit, is ahead in both intervals, but then drops sharply in the last part returns. Corthay can breathe easily.

Behind him and Rogentin, Franjo von Allmen completes the podium. It is the first medal in Super-G for the 21-year-old. In the downhill (2022) and in the combination (2020) he was already third at the Swiss championships.

That was something to talk about

Top athletes like Corinne Suter and Lara Gut-Behrami are not women. The best Super-G drivers are also missing from the men. Marco Odermatt, who won the small crystal ball in this discipline, will not start, as will defending champion Justin Murisier. He is now succeeded by cousin Corthay. After all, with Stefan Rogentin, Gilles Roulin or Lars Rösti, there are some well-known names from the World Cup.

The circumstances

Again no sun in Verbier. The sky is cloudy, the slope is gentle, especially at the bottom, it snows lightly at first, then more heavily. The weather change leads to a 40-minute break after starting number 25. After that, the race can continue.
