They have been together since they were teenagers and have been married for nine years. Now Nino Schurter (36) and his wife Nina are going their separate ways. The Olympic mountain biking champion announced this on Instagram.
Together a daughter
“We remain friends and family, for us and our daughter,” writes Schurter under a photo of the ex-couple. The divorce took place “some time ago”, explains the 2018 Swiss athlete of the year.

Nina suffers from multiple sclerosis
But the pair hadn’t just endured easy times — they went through thick and thin together. In 2020, Nina Schurter announced that she suffered from multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune disease of the nervous system. When she was diagnosed with shock in 2008, she was just 22 years old. When Nino was absent due to his sports career, she was dependent on the support of an au pair or the parents of the two.
And even a child’s wish was on the verge then. “There were doctors who were skeptical,” Nino told the “Schweizer Illustrierte” in 2020. “But there was also the view that pregnancy would renew and strengthen the organism.” The end is known: Nina becomes pregnant and gives birth to daughter Lisa Sophia in October 2015. The family is perfect. “In this situation, Lisa is a blessing to us with her lightheartedness and the way she accepts Nina’s illness without much fuss,” Nino continued.
