Brave and necessary posture

With the decision of the International Athletics Federation (World Athletics) to prevent any transsexual woman from participating in competitions that are scored on the international scale, the initial restrictions were placed on a controversial and complex situation.

The problem is multifaceted, but the World Athletics Council, showing its skills, took a position that is liked by a very important part of female athletes. Many of them are concerned about the effects that the evolution of transsexual rights may have on the results of the competition.

Because, from a physiological perspective, science has already shown that testosterone levels give a great advantage in certain sports specialties.

In other words, in principle, transsexual women, who could have a mediocre performance in the men’s category, could potentially become sports stars in the women’s field, in certain disciplines.

For this reason, it seems reasonable to me that World Athletics should prioritize the principles of equality and integrity that should govern sports practice over the principles of full integration, limiting the endogenous testosterone of these transsexual women to 2.5 millimoles, through estrogen treatment, for at least two years before the competition.

Otherwise, advantage and picaresque could appear in this ancient sport, distorting the value of records. In short, it was a bold and necessary stand on a complex issue.
