Last Saturday, bystanders must have been amazed at the Jakobshorn: about 50 skiers and snowboarders in bathrobes wind their way down the Davos party mountain in succession. The two SRF ski experts Tina Weirather and Marc Berthod lead the way.
The descent from the summit via Jatzhütte and Fuxägufer to the valley is part of the end-of-season party organized by the duo in Davos GR together with comedian Michael Schweizer. Every Wednesday, the trio Weirather/Berthod/Schweizer humorously looks back on the past weekend in the Ski World Cup in the “podcast at the edge of the piste”.
Bathrobe becomes a cult object
Ever since Berthod sat at the podcast microphone in his bathrobe at the start of the season, he has become a cult object among listeners. There were even copies with an embroidered podcast logo on sale for the party.
“We wanted to end this brilliant first podcast season with a bang,” Weirather says of the event last Saturday. This is also possible thanks to the difficult piste conditions with deep slush, which also contribute to the good atmosphere. “Michael is the toughest critic on the podcast. But last Saturday he not only struggled with the material, but also with himself, “says Berthod about his podcast colleague. “Nevertheless, we arrived in the valley on time and we were able to start the live show and the party on time,” says Berthod. The episode of the live show can be heard on Wednesday from 5 p.m.
From the beer idea to the podcast award
The idea for the podcast came about at the wedding of Weirather and her husband, radio host Fabio Nay. There, Schweizer, who runs a video and podcast company with Nay, met Berthod. “At 2 a.m., they decided to launch a podcast together,” says Weirather. The two men did the first four episodes alone and then brought Weirather on board as an expert for the women’s circus.
The shape is important. “There is an incredible amount of interaction around the podcast on social media. There are listeners who follow the races on TV in their bathrobes or people who listen to Michael’s show “Comedymen” and have become ski fans.” Two weeks ago, the “podcast at the edge of the slopes” was awarded in the Sport category at the Suisse Podcast Awards Another reason to celebrate that the party-tested ski community probably wouldn’t have needed.
