Dragisa Gudelj is transported by ambulance after cardiac arrest during the match between Córdoba and Racing de Ferrol.

Anxious minutes in the Primera Federación, the third highest division in Spain. About ten minutes after kick-off, Córdoba defender Dragisa Gudelj (25) collapsed on the field unopposed – cardiac arrest. Team doctors from both teams quickly rush to them. The unconscious player is treated for about seven minutes, including chest compressions.

The brother of the Serbian international Nemanja Gudelj (31) is then taken to the ambulance on a stretcher and finally to the hospital. The 25-year-old had regained consciousness and apparently even wanted to get back on the field and continue playing.

Game is being rescheduled

Córdoba club manager Javier González Calvo later spoke of Gudelj’s health condition: “The player is now stable and will remain in hospital for further examination.”

The game was abandoned after the incident when the score was 1-1. The Spanish federation wants to set a new playing date in the coming days. (mbi)
