Marco Odermatt is a guest in the sports panorama on Sunday evening and is ridiculed by the SRF.

After the end of his record season, Marco Odermatt (25) runs from media event to media event. On Sunday evening, the overall World Cup winner will visit the SRF studio at the Sportpanorama show.

After winning the Swiss giant slalom championship, the long season of the World Cup dominator came to an end on Saturday. A season that took a lot of strength: “The energy reserves are empty after this long season,” admits Odermatt.

“Felt tourist”

The most emotional moment for him was the victory at the world championship in Courchevel (Fri). “After things didn’t go so well in the Super-G and in the downhill practices, I knew I had to outdo myself. And I succeeded with this perfect ride.” The “ultimate challenge” is very exciting for him, says Odermatt.

Another challenge during the season: the knee injury after his near-fall in Kitzbühel (A). “Five days later I got back on my skis and at first felt like a tourist making his first turns.” It was hard on the head, he had to “cheat” his knee at first.

Tricks he clearly masters: Only eight days after the Streif shock, Odermatt wins the Super-G from Cortina (It). The ultimate challenge.

No appearances in the slalom

Then moderator Paddy Kälin presents theses on the future of the ski highflyer. These were illustrated by SRF in comic style. This is how you show an Odermatt full of muscles, which “must also dominate in the descent”. Or an Odermatt symbolically almost overwhelmed by his pressure to succeed.

But also the TV broadcaster cannot resist a provocative statement: the skier is shown dressed in a ballet dress and with short skis on his feet, intended to allude to the question of whether Odermatt will also participate in slalom in the future.

The Nidwaldner laughs at the drawing, but then makes a clear statement: “No. I have to disappoint any fan hoping for that. It will not happen that I will shake up the World Cup slalom.” He has always focused on the speed events and giant slalom in his career and will continue to do so.

“I’m not going to ski until I’m 42”

But how long will fans be able to enjoy Odermatt’s performances on the slopes? “Because I won a lot of things in the beginning, I probably won’t drive to 42 like Johan Clarey,” he tells Kälin.

But the great figure of Swiss skiing can think about that later, because now the holidays are coming. “I look forward to the time without appointments and pressure,” Odermatt admits. A time he certainly deserves now. (byl)
