Ends his career at the age of 33: Riccardo Tonetti.

The ski season is over – and with it the career of Riccardo Tonetti. “Tomorrow is the last dance,” the 33-year-old writes on Instagram on Friday.

As in Switzerland, the national championships are currently taking place in Italy. In La Thuile in the Valle d’Aosta near the French border, the technology specialist will again put on the giant slalom skis on Saturday, “with the same smile as always”.

Kicked out by the national team

The highlight of his career is the bronze medal that the South Tyrolean won in 2019 in the team event at the World Championships in Are (Sd). On the other hand, it was never enough for him to finish on the World Cup podium.

In fourth place in 2019, he narrowly missed out on the combined podium twice (Bormio and Bansko), which are also his two best results. In 162 World Cup races, he finished in the top ten 13 times.

One of the reasons for his dismissal is his relegation from the Italian ski team. Earlier this season, Tonetti lost his place in the national team. He only competed in four giant slalom events, three times he missed the second run and one time he was eliminated in the first round. (che)
