Germany wins after a fuss against Peru

Füllkrug puts together a brace against Peru.

114 days after the World Cup debacle in Qatar, Germany deservedly beat Peru 2-0 in Mainz.

The reason for this was Niclas Füllkrug, who is increasingly becoming a fixture in the DFB offensive with his goals four and five in his fifth international match. Director Rudi Völler, another face of the awakening, was happy in the stands.

Flick had omitted oldies like Antonio Rüdiger, Thomas Müller or Ilkay Gündogan and called up six newcomers that not everyone had on his list. Dortmund’s late starter Marius Wolf (27), the only one called up from the start, made an especially offensive impression in the problem position of the right back. Debutants Kevin Schade and Mergim Berisha entered the field.

Joshua Kimmich wore the captain’s armband as a replacement for the long-term injured Manuel Neuer, who was replaced against Peru by Marc-André ter Stegen.
