Akira Schmid, the Swiss NHL goalie employed by the New Jersey Devils, had a black night on Saturday night. After conceding three early goals, he is substituted.

The 22-year-old Emmentaler parried only four of the seven shots. The coach takes him off the ice after just 11 minutes and orders Vitek Vanecek to score. The Devils, with Schmid and the entire Swiss faction on the ice with Nico Hischier, Timo Meier and Jonas Siegenthaler, eventually lost 4:5 to the Buffalo Sabres. The New Jersey Devils would have qualified for the playoffs with a win. However, the team around captain Hischier has not been doing as desired lately. Five of the last six games have been lost.

Hischier can get a scorer point as a passer. With 68 points (30 goals/38 assists), the Walliser is behind Kevin Fiala (22/46). The two together lead the top scorers list of Swiss players. But the captain of the Devils also has to take a beating. After a bad check against the Swiss, a brawl followed with a large number of participants.

Janis Moser also polishes his stats as a passer. After the Arizona Coyotes lost 3-1 to the Colorado Avalanche with Denis Malgin, the defender from Biel now has 28 points (6/22). Tim Berni (Columbus Blue Jackets) failed to score a run in the 5-4 victory over the New York Islanders. (SDA)
