Is the weather cooperating?
Not really. On Friday it rained on the slope of La Pasay, where the technical disciplines are held – also at the start at 2159 meters above sea level. Salt was used. The slaloms and giant slaloms have yet to go ahead as planned. It should be cloudy on Saturday and snow from Sunday to Monday. After that it gets better again.
Are the stars there?
Most World Cup athletes will be present for the first weekend. Marco Odermatt is the favorite in the giant slalom, while Wendy Holdener is the benchmark in the slalom. A few stars will then be missing from the speed events, including Lara Gut-Behrami, Corinne Suter and Jasmine Flury. They use the time to test skis, among other things. OC boss Eloi Rossier: “That disappoints me. It is bitter for the organiser, the public and the young athletes – you just have to participate in the Swiss championship.”
How are the routes?
La Pasay is a beautiful piste. “Together with Adelboden, Switzerland’s most demanding giant slalom course,” says Rossier. The descent from Les Attelas (2727 metres) is not as demanding as a World Cup course, but should have a respectable run time of around 1:40 minutes.
Where can you see the races?
Except for the male/female combination, all title fights will be streamed live on blick.ch and on swiss-ski.ch.
