McLaren separates from technical director James Key.

McLaren last. After a 15th and two 17th places and a retirement, that is of course no longer a surprise. The 184 wins to date and many world titles since he joined Monaco in 1966 don’t help.

German Andreas Seidl (47) must have suspected months ago that his adventure at McLaren as team boss would not be crowned with success, despite drivers such as Norris and Ricciardo (now Piastri).

Of course Binotto’s exclusion from Ferrari and Vasseur’s departure from Sauber played into his hands. He went back to Hinwil in calmer waters. Not as a team leader, but as a CEO. On paper, others at Alfa-Sauber are now responsible for the route. Even though Seidl is of course in charge.

Key was also with Sauber

McLaren immediately took advantage of the departure of Frenchman David Sanchez from Ferrari (after ten years) as a technology and aerodynamics guru, which had apparently been planned for a long time. Due to a work ban from the Italians, Sanchez can only take on the role of technical director at McLaren from January 1, 2024.

Key, with Sauber from 2010 to 2012 and then Toro Rosso, has served as an emergency response officer. Super talents Norris and Piastri hope that the points are back in for the arrival of Sanchez.
