Now Celestini talks about Constantine

After only six games as Sion coach, Celestini has already been fired.

Fabio Celestini says it like Edith Piaf in her most famous song: “Non, je ne regrette rien”. He does not regret having taken on FC Sion. This chaos club, where coaches are largely a thing of the past before they can really get to work. Celestini is coach number 28 (!) in the past ten years. After six games (and two points), de Vaudois has been fired.

The 46-year-old therefore does not burst into tears. On the contrary. The man is positive. “You learn a lot from a story like that, it makes me stronger,” says Celestini. He had already noticed in the training camp in Marbella that this team would not go well. Balotelli and Co. would have lacked the necessary mentality. Celestini speaks of a missing “work culture”. The value his father gave him along the way. From 07:00 to 19:00 he and his staff were at the training ground in Martigny. But his team did not agree.

Sion boss Christian Constantin sees it that way too. After Celestini’s firing, he publicly belittled the players, and unlike other fired coaches, he doesn’t say a bad word to the coach. The fired man himself is full of praise when asked about his former boss: “I can imagine working with Constantin again. We used to get coffee every Friday, it was great conversation.”

Celestini made history

Celestini is currently without a club, but the Super League still does not want to let him go. Switch off? It’s almost impossible for the football geek. He wants to sign with a new club tomorrow. He has already been to Lausanne, Lugano and Lucerne and has become a coaching legend at all clubs. He leads his heart club Lausanne to promotion, with Lugano he sensationally reaches the group stage of the Europa League and with FC Luzern he wins the cup, the first title in 29 years.

Nevertheless, he was later released early from all three clubs as the results were no longer correct and everything collapsed. However, Celestini does not ask the question of the meaning. “I’d like to be fired ten times if I can make history first.” Trainers came and went. But international successes and titles remain. And the hunger for it is far from satisfied. He wants to work at a club that is mainly about football, where you support his ideas, where you can build something.

He had no time for that at Zion. Celestini and 27 other coaches this decade can tell you a thing or two.
