At the age of 26, it’s over. Nathalie Gröbli has decided to end her career. This is reported by Swiss-Ski.
Gröbli will make his World Cup debut in 2018. She will be 25 in the Lenzerheide combination. After that, only 21 missions will follow at the highest level. The speed specialist achieved her best result in January 2020 with eighth place, also in a combination.
Delayed by a training crash
The shock follows a month later. Gröbli falls during downhill training and sustains an open fracture of the tibia and fibula. Her ascent is abruptly slowed. “The past three years have been very difficult for me,” the woman from Nidwalden says in the message. «In recent weeks I have noticed that my willingness to take risks is not there anymore. But I fought to rise to the challenge and was even able to start again in the World Cup in the speed disciplines, which was not obvious. I am especially happy that I can ski pain-free again and that I am healthy.”
Gröbli has 104 appearances in the European Cup and finished third on the podium twice: 2018 in the Super-G and 2020 in the combined. Now she draws a line. She entered her last race at the European Cup final in Narvik (No). In the Super-G she finished 30th.
Her focus is now on other things. She is looking forward to the new chapter in her life. “I’m going to finish my sports management studies and look forward to the new challenges.” (bir)
