It’s an unfortunate scene in Tuesday’s 3-2 defeat in Bern, when Biel’s star striker Damien Brunner caught his skate in a duel with Jesse Zgraggen and got stuck in the ice. “An accident that no one can do anything about,” says Biel sports director Martin Steinegger.
Brunner immediately senses that something is not right, he reacts emotionally and disappears disappointed into the dressing room. The day after, Steinegger says: “It’s a muscle problem. But we don’t know what exactly.” How long the 37-year-old veteran will be out is still open, “but he certainly won’t be playing again this week”. That means he cannot play in main games 5 and 6 of the Derby quarter-finals.
Since in Game 5 Nati striker Mike Künzle has to serve the second ban for his check against Cody Goloubef, the Seelanders have to deal with striking failures. Sports director Steinegger: “Previously Cunti and Hischier were missing, now Brunner and Künzle. Unfortunately, that’s part of it.” (just now)
