Odermatt attended the Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid with Swiss Ski Marketing Manager Diego Züger.

Marco Odermatt (25) finally settles down. Actually? No. “It’s still full throttle until mid-April,” he says. What the overall World Cup winner says: Several more appointments and events to come, plus some training and ski testing. “And I’m competing in the giant slalom at the Swiss championship.” This will rise next Saturday in Verbier USA – Blick broadcasts live in the stream.

At some point, the downhill world champion will leave all the hectic pace of winter behind. “I look forward to a normal life again when everything is settled. I’m also going on vacation – but I don’t know where to yet.”

After the World Cup final in Soldeu (And), Odermatt treated himself to the Spanish Clásico, in Camp Nou he saw Barcelona win 2-1 against Real Madrid. It goes without saying that he had a good time these days. “I haven’t had the longest nights,” he reveals at his outfitter Stöckli’s traditional event.

Maze makes the slalom tasty for Odermatt

Tina Maze is also present at Odermatt’s honor. The 39-year-old Slovenian used to compete in the ski circus for Stöckli and achieved the incredible record of 2414 World Cup points in 2012/13. Even Odermatt, who set the men’s record with 2042 points, can’t keep up. “I can’t remember Tina’s record, that was a few years ago. When I think she scored almost 400 more points than me, it’s just unbelievable.”

Maze thinks Odermatt can definitely attack her record in the future – he just needs to slalom too. “I always try to get him to do it. It’s in vain,” she says with a smile. The Nidwaldner leaves no doubt that it will continue to be so. “I won’t attack the slalom ball,” he says with a laugh.

The target? Victories in Wengen and Kitzbühel

However, Odermatt has already set his sights on something, he reveals. “Kitzbühel and Wengen are still on my list.” The background: he won World Cup gold in the downhill, but he is still missing a victory in the highest discipline of skiing in the World Cup. But the classics on the Lauberhorn and the Streif have long since whetted his appetite.
