The mayor of Ferrol proposes to change the name of the A Malata stadium to Isidro Silveira

Ángel Mato transferred the initiative to the spokespersons of the municipal clubs, with the aim of honoring the former president of the club who died in 2016.

And Malata, the football home of Racing de Ferrol since 1993, could stop being called that in the future after the proposal of the mayor of the city, Ángel Mata, to change the name of the stadium to Isidro Silveira. According to municipal sources, the councilor passed the initiative to the spokespersons of the municipal clubs this Tuesday morning.

Mato points out that the proposal aims to give a “deserved recognition for the one who was the president of Racing for more than twenty years”. Silveira, who died in 2016, carried out a management that, he defends the mayor, “He managed to progress the club starting from a difficult economic situation to one of his best sporting days, ending up in the Second Division of Spanish football.”

For this reason, the councilor hopes that he will be able to count on the support of all political forces that will support his proposal and promote a personality that, in depth, “I achieved the recognition and affection of two partners and supporters of Racing”. In addition, Mato emphasizes that they will meet in 2023 30 years since the demolition of the Manuel Rivera stadium, in Inferniño and the transfer of Racing’s sports facilities to A Malat. The anniversary, which, according to the local government, would be rounded off by changing the name of the stadium.
