Mikaela Shiffrin (28) caps off her outstanding season with a giant slalom win. She wins the overall World Cup, gets the balls in giant slalom and slalom, is crowned world champion in giant slalom and surpasses Ingemar Stenmark’s record (86 wins) with 14 World Cup victories. She now stands at 88 triumphs.
The woman seems unable to upset anything, she rides so consistently and confidently from victory to victory. You mean. Until there is a very special winner’s interview for the American. Because none other than her friend Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (30) asks the questions.
Kilde is seriously trying
As soon as she sees the Norwegian, the corners of her mouth quiver. “Mikaela Shiffrin, what a day, what a race. How are you feeling?” is his first serious question.
Shiffrin smiles and says it’s great. “I’m looking forward to coming back next season and doing it again.”
“Yes, you will,” says Kilde. And then it’s over with their control. She can no longer hold back her laughter. Your friend will not be distracted from his task, just ask the next question. “It’s crazy, you’re breaking record after record. Which one’s next?”
“I don’t know, tell me,” she says laughing. He realizes he can’t get any further like this, so he declares that the subject of records is over. Instead, Kilde wants to know what her plans are now. She takes a deep breath and tells that she will return to the US and enjoy the time at the beach. “I wish you would come with me, but it can’t be yet.”
Some things stay private
‘Oh really?’ Kilde doesn’t seem to have expected that answer. “Challenge accepted.” And so triggers Shiffrin’s next fit of laughter.
Finally, he wants to know from his girlfriend if she wants to improve anything for next season. “We can discuss that in private later,” she replies with a mischievous smile.
Kilde is pleased with that. “You’re amazing,” he ends the wonderfully refreshing interview and hugs his lover. (bir)
