Aarauer responds to fan riots with a win

FC Aarau is writing positive headlines again.

“I am convinced that the team will show a reaction on the field,” says Wil coach Brunello Iacopetta (38) when asked about the troubled opponent Aarau in the run-up to the game against “Blue”. And the leader-coach should be right. The Rüebliländer defeated Wil 3-0.

The disgrace of last Saturday, when some FCA fans, after the last-minute bankruptcy against Stade Lausanne-Ouchy, attacked their players and wanted to storm the inside of the stadium, followed by the resignation of President Philipp Bonorand (42) – he leaves in the summer. With the win over Wil, the club is finally making positive headlines again.

This success is due to the early offensive fireworks that the Aarauer shows in Wil – FCA top scorer Shkelqim Vladi, who is back from suspension, scores after fifteen minutes. After the break, captain Olivier Jäckle made the provisional decision with a deviated volley and Andrin Hunziker with a header. The Aarauer are lucky when Wils Simon Geiger’s header hits the crossbar (24th). In the end, however, it was a clear – and deserved – victory. And the first away win since September last year.

Yverdon new leader

In the second game on Friday, Yverdon, the team of coach Marco Schällibaum, won against Hakan Yakins Schaffhausen. Thanks to the 2-0 win, the Vauders overtake Wil, who was tied on points, and are the new leaders in the Challenge League. (tired)
