Obradoiro could only beat Tenerife three times

Author: PACO RODRIGUEZ

The last victory in Šar, with Radović as a character, was five and a half years ago

Beating Tenerife is almost always an impossible mission for Obradoiro. In Santiago Martin, the Galician team has never achieved victory. He traveled to the island field eleven times and added defeats to the number of games he played. In Sar, however, the statistics are not so convincing. Nine times the Canaries reached the Caldeira de Sar, but the statistics are not so favorable. They knelt three times in the capital of Galicia, Tenerife. He managed to return home with six victories. In total, Obradoiro and Tenerife played twenty games in the first league, with a balance of three victories for Galicians and seventeen victories for the islanders.

It has been five and a half years since Obra defeated Tenerife. In fact, the last nine clashes between the two have had the same suit. On November 19, 2017, the third and last victory of Obra over Tenerife took place in Sar. Galicians celebrated with an eleven-point difference (75-64), after a spectacular last quarter in which a favorable ratio of 21-12 was recorded.

In the last victory against the island group, the great protagonist of Obra was the Montenegrin forward Nemanja Radović, who finished with 17 points, 12 rebounds and a score of 29 points. A big contribution to the victory in Compostela was made by Illinois guard Matt Thomas, who scored 11 points; Lithuanian forward Eimantas Bendzius, 11 more; and David Navarro, who scored 10.

the first victory

Obradoiro’s first win over Tenerife was in the 2012-2013 academic year. The Galicians won 71-68. Oriol Junyent was great, scoring 20 points (7 of 8 points from 2 and 6 of 8 free throws), with six rebounds and a PIR of 31. Levon Kendall had a good game with 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists; and Alberto Corbacho, also with 15 points (5 of 10 three-pointers).

The second victory over Tenerife was the following year (2013-2014). Obra en Sar won 84-76. The big star of Obra was the center of Minnesota Mike Muscala, a luxury for the squad from Compostela during twenty matches of the Endesa League. It was a nightmare for Tenerife. In 28 minutes, he scored 25 points (10 of 13 2-pointers and 5 of 6 free throws), along with eight rebounds and a PIR of 32. At a good level were Czech forward Pavel Pumprla with 16 points; Oriol Junyent, with 10; and Corbacho, with 9.

Before visiting Obra, the Tenerife expedition had to make a small stopover. After confirming last week’s qualification for the quarter-finals of the Basketball Champions League, the islanders faced Murcia yesterday afternoon with the intention of having home ground advantage in the next round’s best-of-three play-off. Txus Vidorreta’s group traveled without Joan Sastra.

Guard Pepe Pozas, a former Obradoiro player, suffered a ruptured patellar tendon

Real Betis basketball player Pepe Pozas suffered a complete rupture of the patellar tendon on his right knee. Pozas could not finish the game against Baskonia after an unfortunate gesture in defense. The Malaga playmaker will undergo surgery, and the date of his return to the tracks will depend on the course of his recovery. Pozas, who is in his second season at Betis, played seven seasons at Obradoiro. He wore the jersey of the Compostela team in 202 matches in the Endesa League. He played 262 games in ACB.
