Grégory Hofmann’s last appearance with EVZ was on January 17 in the CHL semi-final against Tampere.

Zug’s hockey world came to a standstill when Grégory Hofmann injured his foot in the CHL semi-final against Tampere in mid-January. An outage of about ten weeks was then assumed. The 30-year-old was convinced he would be fit again in the semi-finals of the play-offs. And now this: 33 hours before the first quarter-final game against the Lakers, Hofmann is on the ice with the team to train – also in the power play formation.

There is no clearer sign: Hofmann will make his comeback on Wednesday. EVZ trainer Dan Tangnes smiles and says: “That’s right. But we can’t expect miracles from him yet.” You won’t overpower him. The striker himself confirms that he feels very good. “Of course the intensity and pace of the game are even higher”, he knows. But Hofmann is there ready, leg the runners.

“Now I want to take the first win”

No wonder: he had to watch for two months while his team barely got going. During this time, he kept fit in the weight room, says Hofmann, “that’s not always the most fun.” So the injury break felt even longer. “It was a long week in a difficult phase for the team. It wasn’t always easy. But in the end it did a great job.”

As well as his doctors, specialists and physios. “The recovery went perfectly, the care was great. My body is well prepared.” And this is two weeks earlier than expected. “It’s perfect timing that I’m already back for the most important phase of the season. Now I want to get my first win on Wednesday.”
