Jil Teichmann (WTA 39) has been eliminated in the sixteenth final of the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells. The 25-year-old from Biel lost to Swede Rebecca Peterson (WTA 103) 6:3, 3:6, 1:6.
Teichmann got off to a flying start, took the first two service games from her opponent and took a 4-1 lead despite an admitted break. In the second round she turned a 0:2 into a 3:2 before losing the thread and winning only one game to 1:2 in the third set. In the last three games, she decided only two points in her favor, Peterson’s first two match points. The two played against each other for the first time.
Although Teichmann survived more than one round in a main draw for the first time this year, that should be little consolation for her. On Friday she shone with a win in three sets against her compatriot Belinda Bencic, who became number 9. (SDA)
