Provocateur Marc Marchon and Kloten are a thing of the past: an opponent of a completely different caliber is now waiting for SCB stimulus figure Chris DiDomenico in the quarterfinals. Against no other team does the Canadian overheat as quickly as in the derbies against EHC Biel.
The last time there was a loud bang. Due to the feud between “DiDo” and the Seeländer, the 34-year-old went to the collar of Yannick Rathgeb in the cabin wing. Before that, the two had soured each other on the ice.
Biel’s defender had first checked DiDomenico and then fought him. The unspoken reason for this: the SCB top scorer drove in front of the guest block after his goal and, not for the first time, cheered provocatively in front of the Biel supporters.
Daniel Villard, CEO of Biel, then said in the “Bund”: “It’s too bad that the league doesn’t do anything. A player provokes towards the host sector, and then you’re amazed when pyros detonate. He attacks again in the wardrobe and it is not reported and penalized.”
“He fits better with football with his swallows”
In an interview with Blick, “DiDo” later said, “Why did I celebrate so much? Because people in Biel insult me all the time. Even little kids bring cardboard plates to play that say ‹F**k you, DiDo!› That’s worrying and should make you think.”
DiDomenico’s feud began seven years ago when he was still a forward for the SCL Tigers. Before the playout final, then-Biel player Mathias Joggi added fuel to the fire: “He thinks he’s tough just because he’s Canadian. He’d be a better fit with his football swallows.” On the ice, DiDomenico mainly had to deal with Langenthal loanman Joël Fröhlicher, who liked the role of provocateur. “It’s about annoying the opponents. Especially the stars,” he said in the “Berner Zeitung”.
Even then, the bloodthirsty striker was involved in skirmishes with the Biel supporters. “The fans do what they have to do. I do what I have to do.” He likes to provoke. “I saw these funny posters in the audience with the slogans against me, that gave me extra motivation.” With one goal and six assists, he played a key role in Langnauer’s 4–2 win in the series and celebrated by firing imaginary arrows into Biel’s away block with a bow-and-arrow gesture.
Swallow hunters look closely at any acting
Biel was fined for the foul-mouthed banners. “DiDo” was also fined 1,650 francs. Meanwhile, through swallows and other sins, he has already reached 72,000 francs and asks: “Is it always me?”
Anyone who has seen how little it takes “DiDo” to sour on the ice can hardly imagine keeping his nerve in Biel, where he is an enemy and a glove awaits him.
However, it is not excluded that the SCB star will be withdrawn from circulation again. In the Kloten series, there were some scenes where players “sold” fouls with unnatural falls to the referees. This is called ‘beautification’ in hockey jargon and is fined. DiDomenico has just been automatically suspended for one game after his third swallow of the season. After the fourth there is a procedure. The league’s swallowers may also have taken a close look at DiDomenico’s traps following a foul by Marchon last Tuesday. The penalty period expires on Monday.
