Stan Wawrinka shows himself strong in Indian Wells

Great performance from Stan Wawrinka! The Swiss is one round further at the ATP 1000 tournament in Indian Wells.

Especially in the opening sentence, Wawrinka has to prove his mental strength against his 14 years younger opponent. Although the Swiss leads 5: 2 and has two set balls at a score of 6: 5, the first set goes into a tiebreak. In this, the nearly 38-year-old (March 28) fends off three set balls before he can use his third to win the first round.

The next opponent is Holger Rune

In the second set, Wawrinka and Kecmanovic fought a balanced duel to 3: 4. Then the Swiss, who reached the final of the ATP 1000 tournament in California six years ago, scored twelve points in a row and thus survived the second round in Indian Wells after the tournaments in Marseille and Rotterdam.

The Swiss will hit a chunk in the sixteenth final. The Romands played once against Holger Rune (ATP 8), 18 years younger than Wawrinka: last year he lost at the Masters tournament in Paris in three sets. (SDA)
