Argentinian goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez (30) paid a lot for the football gloves he wore at the World Cup. On Friday he auctioned them for no less than 42,000 euros. This has been announced by the Garrahan Hospital in Buenos Aires.

However, the amount should not flow into his own pocket. The footballer wants to donate the proceeds to a clinic for children with cancer. “When they asked me to give away the World Cup gloves, I didn’t hesitate because it’s for a good cause,” says the football star, who was connected to the auction via video link. The gloves “help the kids a lot more than I do when they hang in a frame in my house.”

The goalkeeper wore the gloves in the final of the World Cup in Qatar, in which Argentina defeated France on penalties. (SDA)
