Wendy Holdener contests the first slalom since the World Cup in Are.

Three weeks have passed since Wendy Holdener (29) left the World Championship slalom on a gold track. The dream of the title shattered shortly before the end. Bitter!

Now the first slalom since then is on the program in Are (Sd). “I keep thinking about the race,” de Schwyzerin tells Blick. “It will be that way for a while. Also to process it.”

People don’t like to blame Holdener. She has never been so close to a great triumph. The disappointment was correspondingly great. “I was very empty at the beginning,” she recalls the days immediately after the World Cup. Her family and friends helped her process the frustration. “I enjoyed the days at home.”

Silver medals celebrated

The program included a brunch with colleagues or a nice ski tour. “We celebrated the silver medals,” Holdener recalled that despite the slalom out, she did not leave the World Cup empty-handed. She finished second in both the station wagon and parallel races.

With charged batteries, she tackled the last sprint of the season. And convinced in Kvitfjell (No) in the Super-G as 8th and 17th. Why did she enter the races? With regard to the World Cup combination, she noticed that she was in a good mood in this discipline. It was therefore decided to contest all remaining Super-Gs. “Then we decide how we are going to do next season,” Holdener explained.

Pull out the positive

On the other hand, there is a real test in their main discipline. This winter she celebrated her first two slalom victories, but recently she was eliminated twice in the slalom. She only needs to nibble on it a little. “I remember the great swings, the great races I delivered,” she prefers to see the positive.

The slalom in Are must also end positively. “The ramp looks very cool,” she says, looking forward to it. And she proves that the circumstances are good for her on Friday in the giant slalom. She finished twelfth, her second best result of the season in this discipline.
