It’s a terrible drama. “The worst thing that could happen on the ice,” says Ambri defender Tobias Fohrler. It’s about his childhood friend and ex-teammate Mike Glemser. Fate struck on February 3: the striker of the German Oberliga club Rosenheim played against SC Riessersee/Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It’s the 9th minute – which changes the former youth international’s life forever.
After checking, Glemser falls into the gang and seriously injures himself. How hard is not clear for a month. Until a few days ago, his club, the Starbulls Rosenheim, launched a fundraising campaign in favor of the young player. Since then, the brutal diagnosis has also been known: fracture of the 4th and 5th cervical vertebrae. Glemser is paralyzed from the neck down and needs artificial respiration.
Details of what happened immediately after the tragedy are also known: “After minutes of very good first aid on the ice, Glemser was taken to the nearby accident clinic of Murnau, which specializes in spinal cord injuries in particular.” Ten days in an artificial coma and two operations followed.
“It’s So Terrible”
“When I found out, I felt sick and had goosebumps for minutes,” Fohrler says of the moment of shock. The Germany international has known Glemser since they were teenagers. As a 16-year-old, their paths crossed at the Cologne juniors, “we were good friends”. They play together in all German youth selections up to U20.
Fohrler describes his childhood friend as an always cheerful person, “just bursting with energy”. The thought that his ex-colleague can no longer move touches and moves Fohrler enormously. “It’s so terrible. Of course we are aware that as hockey players we are at greater risk of injury. Yet after such a tragedy you only wonder why. »
Although he has to search for the right words, Fohrler has already sent his childhood friend wishes for recovery. Knowing that Glemser and his family currently have completely different concerns and fears. This is exactly why the Starbulls Rosenheim have started a call for donations together with the next of kin. In any case, to be able to support the player financially as well as possible in his further life.

“Currently, daily treatment measures focus on restoring basic body functions such as independent breathing and digestion. In addition, efforts are made to have a positive influence on the musculoskeletal system through mobilization », as one learns on the Gofundme platform.
The solidarity in the hockey world is enormous. The first donation goal of 250,000 euros was exceeded in the first days. Glemser’s family and girlfriend express their emotional gratitude: “We are moved by the messages of support from all over Germany, but also from abroad.” A new goal is 500,000 euros, of which almost 390,000 have already been achieved. Fohrler also donated. “His family could certainly use every euro, please help,” he says.
