Snowboarder Patrizia Kummer is turning her back on the sport.

In 2014 she sensationally won gold in the parallel giant slalom in Sochi, now snowboarder Patrizia Kummer retires. In mid-March, the 35-year-old Walliser will compete in her last World Cup race in Berchtesgaden.

Before her Olympic success, she celebrated her first two of a total of three overall World Cup victories in the two previous winters. The holder of a master’s degree in psychology has won a total of 15 times in the World Cup. The only – small – spot in the palmares is the lack of a world title. She won silver twice (2013 and 2017) and bronze once (2009).

“For me, this is the ideal time to end my long journey as a snowboarder,” Kummer said in the press release. “I look forward to the time after my active career and would like to thank everyone who has guided and supported me on my sporting path through ups and downs.” (SDA/mo)
