The deadline for the Swiss Football League licensing process ends today. FC Luzern submitted its documents to the league on time. But these are incomplete.
The signature of stadium owner Bernard Alpstaeg on the suitability of the FCL to play in the swissporarena is missing. Alpstaeg’s spokesperson Sacha Wigdorovits says: “Mr. Alpstaeg has not yet signed for the right to play for FC Luzern in the swissporarena for next season.”
Alpstaeg first wanted to wait and see how the talks with the board of directors of FCL Holding would go, Wigdorovits continued. Led by Mayor Beat Züsli and League CEO Claudius Schäfer, the quarreling FCL leadership met for the first time last week. It is said that another meeting has been arranged.
‘Procedure not understandable for management’
The FCL writes in a press release: “In recent weeks, the Board of Directors of FCL Holding AG has found with regret that the owner of the swissporarena, Bernhard Alpstaeg, has tried to torpedo the club’s licensing process by signing for the denied license play in the swissporarena for the 2023/24 season. This approach is incomprehensible to the Board of Directors and should be condemned accordingly. »
Instead of Alpstaeg’s signature, the FCL has now included the lease with Stadion Luzern AG, which is valid until April 2029, in the license file and considers this to be sufficient proof.
