Huber gets nothing in the slopestyle final

No slopestyle medal for the Swiss snowboarders at the Freestyle World Championships in Bakuriani: Nicolas Huber failed in both runs in the final.

After a failed first run with some uncertainties on the rails and a fall in the second jump, the Zurich native couldn’t improve much in the second round either. Again he can’t stand the “Backside 1440”, a backward jump with a quadruple rotation. With 34.36 points, the number two of the 2017 World Cup finished last of the 16 finalists. Huber has a precious metal rematch in the Big Air this weekend, although the favorites are different there too.

Just like two years ago, the World Cup gold in slopestyle was secured by Norwegian Marcus Kleveland, who triumphed 87.23 points ahead of Japan’s Ryoma Kimata (83.45) and American Chris Corning (82.18), the world champion of 2019.

16-year-old wins with a novelty

The medal decision for the women took place without Swiss participation. Gold goes to just 16-year-old Briton Mia Brookes, who becomes the first woman to show a “14” (four turns) in a match.

The teenager triumphed with 91.38 points ahead of Olympic champion and defending champion Zoi Sadowski-Synnott (88.78) from New Zealand and the Japanese Miyabi Onitsuka (83.05). (SDA)
