From May 2023, Weber will be responsible for the Zurich first team as head of sport. The 59-year-old from Dübendorf has signed a two-year contract and is expected to stimulate sporting development. «Christian Weber brings a lot of knowledge and network in the field of ice hockey. He is an important part for us to take a substantial step forward with the team next season,” said general manager Alexander Keller in the press release.
As a player, Weber has played 103 international matches and four World Cup tournaments, as well as two Swiss championship titles with the ZSC Lions. As head coach he worked for the ZSC Lions, SCL Tigers, Rappi, Klagenfurt, Thurgau and Basel, among others. With Basel he was able to promote from the MyHockey League to the Swiss League last season and then had a successful start to the season before they split up before the turn of the year.
