Breathe fresh mountain air, drink clear glacier water and replenish vitamin D. Exercising in the mountains is good for body and mind. And before our eyes. If you put on your winter hiking boots in the Jungfrau ski area, you will get an incredible panorama of the triumvirate Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
Wherever nature lovers go, they will always find perfectly signposted routes: to peaks or mountain lakes, through valleys or along streams. Regardless of whether fun or ambition is the driving force. From leisurely to strenuous hikes, over 100 kilometers of winter hiking trails are waiting to be discovered in the Jungfrau ski area.
For the cozy
Do you find it more comfortable? The Eiger Run hiking and toboggan run is ideal for gourmets and anyone who simply likes to breathe in the mountain air. From the Eiger glacier it goes down to the Fallbodensee. From there, the path leads smoothly to Kleine Scheidegg. Sometimes with a view of the Lauberhorn, sometimes with the imposing north face of the Eiger behind you, then again romantic, wooded passages followed by impressive descents. In addition, the famous triumvirate of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau is always right in the back. A look back is definitely worth it!
Arrival: The Eiger Express takes you from the Grindelwald Terminal along the north face of the Eiger to the Eigergletscher station. The walk to Kleine Scheidegg takes about 45 minutes.
View of the spectacular north face of the Eiger
One of the most beautiful winter hikes in the region starts at 2,225 meters above sea level at the Mannlichen mountain hut and leads to Kleine Scheidegg. The triumvirate of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau is always with you on the hike and makes every heart beat faster. At the foot of the Tschuggen lies the snowy winter hiking trail that leads through fragrant Swiss pine forests in the direction of Kleine Scheidegg.
Accessibility: With the Mannlichenbahn you go up the mountain from the Grindelwald Terminal. The scenic walk to Kleine Scheidegg takes about 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Always the sun on your face
You can start the winter walk from First to Bort with light luggage and without provisions. During the trip, which takes about three hours, there are three possibilities to stop. After the first refreshment in the First Mountain Inn we head towards the Bachalpsee. Be sure to plan a detour to the lake, even if the path branches off into the valley shortly before. The Berggasthaus Waldspitz invites you to enjoy the winter sun on the terrace. Or you can march on to Bort, the last place to stop for a drink. Then let the gondola take you down to Grindelwald – with all the lightness of life.
Arrival: The Firstbahn takes you from Grindelwald to First in about 25 minutes. The walk takes about three hours.
Those who are not lazy will be rewarded
The name Faulhorn has nothing to do with laziness, neither linguistically nor physically. It is derived from “Fulen”, i.e. friable rock. And you can only climb the top on foot. The two and a half hour winter walk from First to the Faulhorn is definitely worth it: on the one hand because of the panorama and on the other hand because the longest toboggan run in the world starts at 2,681 meters above sea level. Those who have pulled a sled up the mountain can be lazy on the way back via Bussalp to Grindelwald: apart from steering and braking, there is nothing to do for the next 15 kilometers.
Arrival: The Firstbahn takes you from Grindelwald to First in about 25 minutes. From there the walk starts, which takes more than 2.5 hours.
