Flamengo win the Copa Libertadores for the third time after beating Athletico Paranaense
Flamengo have won the Copa Libertadores for the third time. In Guayaquil (Ecuador) they won the final of the South American Champions League 1-0 in the Brazilian duel with Athletico Paranaense from Curitiba.
Flamengo (from Rio), winners in 1981 and 2019 and defeated last year, made it 1-0 in added time in the first half thanks to Gabriel Barbosa, who simply tapped the ball in after an Everton Ribeiro cross.
no fist
Paranaense, defeated 2005 finalists, could not make a fist after that, especially after Pedro Henrique was sent off after his second yellow card just before half-time. Not much happened after the break, although Barbosa was close to making it 2-0.
The victory will allow Flamengo to prepare for the Club World Cup, scheduled for February 2023. Real Madrid also participates as winners of the Champions League. Both teams advance to the semi-finals.
