‘Together: The Tripl3 Winners’ is the title of Netflix’s latest sports series. Manchester City were followed every step of the 2022/23 season by a small camera team from the streaming giant. From training camp to the historic triple victory.

This resulted in a documentary series with six episodes of about 45 minutes each, which can be seen on the streaming platform from April 2. But is the city documentary worth it for you? She’s already seen the look.

Pep Guardiola in pictures

The most impressive thing about the series is probably the deep insight into the work of coach Pep Guardiola (53): from his passion in training, to speeches before matches and the words after defeats. There was also always a camera present during tactical instructions and individual conversations with players.

The shots in the cabin are also among the highlights of the series. At moments such as shortly before kick-off or the break in the Champions League final, the viewer is up close and personal.

This is how Akanji appears

Right in the middle: Manuel Akanji (28). The Swiss, who has played 83 games for City since 2022, gets a lot of airtime in the series. In the first episode he was guided through his last-minute move from Dortmund to Manchester.

Akanji talks about how stressful and crazy the change was in the summer of 2022: “My wife was pregnant. The birth took place two days after the signing. A crazy start,” the Winterthur resident recalls.

Over the course of the series, the Nati defender also talks about getting used to Pep Guardiola’s system, his mistake in the Manchester derby and jokes about his dressing style. Akanji, who is usually quite quiet off the field, may have collected some sympathy points among the city fans.

Haaland as the main character

Of the players, Erling Haaland (23) is central. For example, his signature in Manchester, the five in the Champions League and the achievement of the goals record in the Premier League are documented. The super striker is the main character par excellence.

What the series lacks, however, are the personal, intimate insights into the players’ lives. This means that none of the stars are escorted home, as is the case in other sports series such as ‘Quarterback’ or ‘All or Nothing’. Most recordings are limited to the training center and the stadium.

Ultimately, the documentary still impresses with its closeness to the stars, great images and exciting interviews. Naturally, they also benefit from the success of the Cityzens, who had one of the best seasons in football history by winning the treble.
