The HCD needs as many top players as possible to reach the semi-finals against Lausanne. But who can play will only be decided after the warm-up on match day.

The Lausanne team’s hard, intense pace has already cost the HCD several top performers. Dennis Rasmussen (Sd) is out after LHC captain Michael Raffl pushed the stick into his neck while on the ice in game two. In game four, Kristian Näkyvä (Fi), who twisted and injured his knee in a fistfight with Tim Bozon (season-ending), was hit. Davyd Barandun was also out of that match when Cody Almond (five games suspended) checked him in the head in the final seconds.

Joakim Nordström (Sd) was also missing in the sixth game. In addition, top scorer Valentin Nussbaumer encountered a Raffl check and had to be taken to hospital for further examination. The bitter news: Nussbaumer suffered a concussion and will be absent from today’s showdown in Lausanne.

Besides Nussbaumer and Näkyvä, the other affected players probably made the trip to French-speaking Switzerland yesterday. However, who will be allowed to participate in the finalissima will only be decided today after the warm-up. It is clear that the HCD needs all the strength, a defensive stronghold and goalkeeper Sandro Aeschlimann in top form to reach the semi-finals against these rebellious and annoying residents of Lausanne.
