Jannik Sinner (22) is the first finalist at the ATP 1000 tournament in Miami. The Italian continued his winning streak against Daniil Medvedev (28) and outscored the Russian 6:1, 6:2.
Sinner lost the first six matches on the ATP tour against Medvedev. Since last October, however, the tide has turned impressively. The South Tyrol achieved a fifth victory in Florida compared to fourth in the world rankings. He defeated him three times in the final in the past six months, including at the Australian Open.
Sinner could move up to second place in the world rankings
Sinner’s increased self-confidence became clear on Friday. The 22-year-old takes a 5-0 lead from the competitive starting phase with four close games. After just over half an hour he won the first set and after two more breaks in the second round he won the match in 70 minutes.
In the final, his third in Miami after the losses in 2021 and 2023 (defeat against Medvedev), Sinner will face Alexander Zverev (26) or Grigor Dimitrov (32) on Sunday. With one more win, the 22nd in the 23rd match of the year, he would move one place past Carlos Alcaraz to second in the world rankings on Monday. (SDA/mbi)
