The design of the new shirt is intended as a “tribute to Swiss culture”. An Edelweiss flower image, inspired by traditional Swiss costumes, represents the country’s “cultural heritage with its Alpine elegance.” While the home shirt is classic, the away shirt combines white and blue – for the first time since 1999, Puma has used this color for the Swiss shirt.
The away shirt is inspired by the Jungfraujoch and the highest train station in the country, writes the SFV. “The connection with snow, mountains and ice is reflected in the blue accents of the jersey, while the graphic design of lines focuses on the railway sleepers of the Jungfrau railway.”
The name of the country in the four national languages is also immortalized on the neck of the sweater. Schweiz in German, Suisse in French, Svizzera in Italian and Svizra in Romansh. “The new shirts contain many elements of our beautiful country and are at the same time an expression of the internal motto of our team for the European Championships: WE ARE SWITZERLAND,” says Nati director Tami about the new design.
Captain Xhaka is also impressed with the new jersey. “After the shoot, I’m really looking forward to wearing the new jerseys on the field soon. I was particularly impressed by the elegant design of the home shirt with the Edelweiss-look pinstripes. I find blue as the newly integrated color in the away shirt refreshing and love the harmonious look.”
The sweaters are now available in stores.
