No new slalom champion will be crowned today

Lenz Hächler can retain his title as Swiss champion for the time being. Too high temperatures, a brittle slope and poor visibility mean that the slalom in Lenzerheide cannot be completed today. This is bitter for Marc Rochat, who was able to use his starting number 1 to set a clear best time. Only the top 4 were within a second – Daniel Yule with starting number 6 had already lost 1.91 seconds.

Accordingly, the slope no longer allowed the best times for the higher starting numbers. The race was stopped before all 130 starters could begin the first run. It is not clear when and where this event will be moved. According to Swiss-Ski, a slalom champion will be crowned in 2024.

While the women’s giant slalom ends tomorrow, Thursday, the men’s race continues next week. The downhill is scheduled for Thursday (April 4), followed by the Super-G on Friday (April 5).

Race cancelled!

Shame! Unfortunately, no Swiss slalom champion will be crowned this year, as the bad weather and gentle slopes no longer allow this. The second run will not take place and the race will not be counted. Bitter for Marc Rochat, who would have been on course for the Swiss championship title after a strong first run.

Interim conclusion

Is there a starting victory for Marc Rochat here? Starting with number 1, he conjures up a time in the snow that no one can match afterwards. And that despite Rochat making a small mistake in the middle section. However, he has so far left his competition behind, especially in the final sprint. With Luca Aerni (+0.42), Mathias Iten (+0.67) and Ramon Zenhäuser (+0.75), only the top 4 remained within one second.

Defending champion Lenz Hächler is already 1.77 seconds behind Rochat in fifth place. Daniel Yule follows in 6th place. It will be interesting to see how the track develops over the course of the day as it was already significantly weakened during the first descent. The. The 2nd run is scheduled for 1 p.m.
