Before the fifth match, LHC sports director John Fust (52) cannot resist a clear verbal swipe at referee boss Andreas Fischer. “From our point of view you cannot impose two game time penalties for one fight. Because the referee did not answer my call, I had to appeal.” With this search for an answer, Fust justifies the objection in Tim Bozon’s case and wants to remove the suspicion that he simply wanted to avert the ban.

What does Fischer himself say about this accusation? Unlike Fust, Blick reaches him. «I’ll just say this: our referees contacted him before the deadline and explained to him the required interpretation of the rules. Still, he decided to object.” Fust would have had until Monday afternoon to do this – and not until Sunday afternoon, as he had thought.

The coach complains

Lausanne’s coach Geoff Ward (61) can also complain – about the referees. After the 0-1 defeat, the Canadian was annoyed: “They were in the majority.” According to Ward, there were six Grisons on the ice at the start of the action. “The player who went out was not yet out when the player who came in before him touched the puck. They (the referees, the editors) overlooked him, that’s sad.” So instead of being annoyed that his players are missing their best scoring opportunities on the running meter, his frustration is directed at the referees.

Speaking of frustration: Lausanne’s players have it too. Their lack of efficiency in finishing gets on their nerves. The shooting ratio from their perspective: 195:116. HCD goalkeeper Sandro Aeschlimann allowed only ten shots in four games, while he recently celebrated a shutout. You regularly see what happens when the French-speaking Swiss become increasingly annoyed about wasting their scoring opportunities.

In game five, Jiri Sekac stabbed the Davos goalie in the ribs with his stick after holding the puck. Or they go completely crazy, like in the final phase of the fourth game. They express their frustration in fights or unfair actions. Cody Almond was suspended for five games for his check to HCD-Barandun. And Bozon kept fighting when HCD defender Näkyvä (season-ending, knee injury) was already defenseless on the ground.

Bozon’s return to Davos

So that brings us to Bozon. Due to the two game-time penalties imposed by the referees, the Frenchman with a Swiss license was excluded for at least one match. But he will be back at the start in Davos on Wednesday. In the sixth and possibly decisive match. So how do you respond? Does the 30-year-old manage the balance between focus and emotions? Perhaps he will be haunted by the thought that the people of Graubünden will respond in some way to his unsportsmanlike and dishonest behavior. That could lead him astray.
